Can I keep working while studying at the Northwestern UX/UI Boot Camp?

  • Yes. The non-credit, part-time certificate program is designed for working professionals who are actively pursuing a career change or career advancement.

How long does it take to complete the program?

  • The program is part-time. You can complete it in six months (24 weeks).

Do you provide career planning support?

  • Yes. We offer all of our students career support and coaching as well as resume and portfolio support, interview preparation, and experiential learning opportunities.

Do I need to have previous experience in programming or UX/UI before applying?

  • No experience is required.

What sets your boot camp apart from others I can join in Chicago or elsewhere?

  • We offer a part-time program that allows working professionals to study UX/UI without leaving their current job.

Is there an application process? How do I get started?

The Northwestern UX/UI Boot Camp has an application process and is not open enrollment. An initial phone interview with an admissions adviser is the first step in the process for program admission. Applicants who are recommended to move forward will take a required critical thinking and problem-solving assessment. After both application review and passing the academic assessment, qualified candidates will proceed to a final interview.

What does the program cost and what funding options are available?

Program tuition is $12,495*. Students may explore private student loans or a payment plan option with their admissions adviser. *Listed program tuition is valid through the 2021-22 academic year ending August 31, 2022.

What criteria do you look for in potential students applying to the program?

We believe the main criterion for success in our program is your passion and commitment to succeed. Learning UX/UI is difficult and requires hours of hard work, and we look for applicants who are determined and willing to give the program their all in order to achieve life-changing results.

Do I need to be a Northwestern student to apply?

No, applicants do not need to be Northwestern students. This program is offered through the Northwestern University School of Professional Studies.

How much time should I expect to dedicate to the program?

Our part-time program requires 10 hours of in-class time per week. In addition, you must be willing to dedicate a minimum of 20* hours to outside work per week (*depending on experience) in order to truly immerse yourself in the materials covered in class.

Do I need to bring my own computer?

  • Yes, a reliable laptop is required for this course. Laptops can be Mac or PC, with a minimum 8GB of RAM and a dual core processor (64 bit).
  • If you’re unsure if your laptop meets the requirements, please check with our admission adviser first and they will make sure you’re good to go.

Will I need to purchase books?

No, all that is needed for class is your laptop and the eagerness to learn.

Are there any scholarships available?

Currently, Northwestern alumni are eligible for a $500 scholarship toward tuition. We also offer early registration pricing and payment plans.
